Introduction

My name is Robbie Johnson. I am from Tulsa, Oklahoma and am a senior here at OU. All my life I have been a huge fan of sports. I played almost every sport when I was younger such as football, baseball, basketball, soccer, swimming, tennis, and track. My favorites are definitely football and basketball. As I grew older, I cut the sports down to just football and basketball because I did not have enough time for that many extracurriculars. Now that I am in college, I am focusing my attention on school and my major is Health and Exercise Science. After college I am looking to go to chiropractic school. So far I have loved my experience at OU and will cherish it forever. I hate that I am going to miss out on so much fun my senior year because of the coronavirus but I am dedicating my time to have as much fun with the unfortunate situation we have all been placed in. Even though this class will not be effected, I really hope that we can keep what classes we have in person. I learn so much better in that scenario rather than through zoom where I find it very difficult to pay attention. One thing I am happy about is that my younger brother is here with me at OU. He had his first year here last year and now he is a sophomore. It is nice having family at school with you so you are still able to have family time away from home. He also rushed the same fraternity as I did so we both get to spend a lot of time together. One thing I have really enjoyed at OU is university sing. This is a campus activities council organization and they encourage other groups to join together and create a 10 minute show filled with dancing and singing. I loved doing this my freshman year and even got the chance to be a director for my brother when he did it last year. OU is such an amazing place and I will miss it so much after I graduate.

  1. Oh, how cool that you want to become a chiropractor, Robbie! That's great! I've seen a lot of different health professions in people's posts, but you are the first future chiropractor I've met this semester... and I am a believer: I've never visited a chiropractor myself, but I've had so many friends get help from that after car accidents, from chronic conditions, all kinds of situations! I hear you about Zoom: I find it really hard to concentrate too, so even when I think I've paid attention, at the end of a Zoom meeting, I can't remember anything! I've been teaching online with blogs and websites since 2002 (no kidding! not a typo), and back then there were not any video options; that was before YouTube even existed. So I hope the blogging/website approach will work for you. One of my favorite things about things about this approach is how at the end of the semester you can look back to your posts from Week 2 and Week 3 and so on just to see how much you did and (hopefully!) how much you learned. Given how hard the pandemic is making everything, I like the idea that everybody will be able to look at their blog and their website at the end of the semester in this class and be proud of what they were able to do... even in the pandemic. :-)

  2. Hi Robbie! I am also in the health and exercise sciences college, however I am just doing a minor. I think it is super awesome that you know where you want to take it and what you want to do with your life. In college, it is hard to find that and trust yourself that you made the right choice. I am super jealous that your brother came here. I would love to have family just a 15 minute walk away. But unfortunately, my brother is a die hard LSU fan and will probably only step foot on campus for my graduation!

  3. Hi Robbie!! Yay it made me so happy to come upon your introduction, as we're in the best u sing fam together!! I was in PLC with Ryan, and just figured out he was your brother a few days ago. My brother was a senior at OU last year, and I loved sharing time on campus with him. It's been weird without him, and I'm sure Ryan will feel the same way next year. I'm glad you've loved your time at OU, and I know you can continue to make the most of it, regardless of covid!

  4. Hi Robbie! I am so glad that you have the goal of your own future. We have similar experience in the term of exercise and sports. When I was in middle school and high school, I always love hiking, mountaineering and playing basketball. However, I also do not have too much time to do these exercises since my major is economics, and I also have many heavy tasks... Anyway, no sky too high, no sea too rough.

  5. Hi Robbie,

I totally support your dream of becoming a chiropractor. My chiropractors are a huge blessing. I go to Chiropractic Arts Center here in Moore. It's owned by a family of chiropractors, so I always get to see a member of the Muse family. They're amazing! There's also so many holistic health avenues you can pursue in your future business and you'll get to work with all sorts of athletes. What makes you want to do chiropractic practice instead of physical therapy or coaching? Do you think you'll get involved in coaching intramural youth sports when you graduate and have more time?

    Thanks for sharing!

  6. Hi Robbie,
It was awesome reading through some of your hobbies and things you are passionate about. I am a big sports fan myself and love watching any sport that's on. I am a health and excise science minor so that is something in common we share. I think it is awesome that you are looking to be a chiropractor, I have some close family friends who are in that line of work and love it. I look forward to reading through some of your pieces this semester. Wish you all the best this year.

  7. Hi Robbie! I am a senior too!! I agree that I learn a lot better with in person classes. That is so cool that your brother goes to OU as well. That must be so fun! I also love to sing and dance. Wish I would have done university sing! I hope you have a great last year!

  8. Hey Robbie!

Congrats on being so close to graduating! That's so cool that you're going to be a chiropractor; I wish you nothing but the best in your future career. It sounds like you have had a great time at OU, but it stinks that you're not able to do as many of your hobbies this year. Hopefully by springtime things will have changed a little bit.

  9. Hi Robbie!
I think that's really cool you're going to be a chiropractor. I've personally really benefited from chiropractors and physical therapy in the past. I definitely know what you mean about not being able to focus during Zoom classes. It's way harder to lose focus when you're in a class in person!
I'm glad you got to be on campus and in the same fraternity as your brother. Keeping family close to you is really important in college, and the fact you got to have some awesome times with him on campus before the coronavirus hit is great!

  10. Hi Robbie! That is awesome that you are going to chiropractor school after OU. I feel like the need for chiropractors is high now because I know several people who have to go see one, so it’s great that you are taking that route. I think it’s cool that you are diverse in your interests and activities, too. Unfortunately, the coronavirus did affect a lot of what we would normally do this year, but I appreciate your positive outlook. It was nice to meet you and I wish you the best in your future endeavors!

  11. Hi Robbie!

That's so cool that you get to spend time with your younger brother; my brother and I were actually the same way in college. He was a senior when I was a freshman, and we were/are both in Brothers Under Christ, so we got to spend a decent amount of time together. Enjoy it while you can- I know some people might see it as "lame" having to be around your family when you sometimes try to "get away" from your family when starting college, but I couldn't have been more thankful to have my brother here my freshman year to help me acclimate and get used to this new lifestyle, and I promise you your brother is just as thankful. I hope you have a good semester with this class and your fraternity!

  12. Hey Robbie! As a fellow sports fanatic, it is so nice to meet you! I started out as an HES major but switched to Sports writing my sophomore year because I felt more of a calling to that profession. I too have my brother here at OU. I am a junior and he is a 5th year senior. it is so. nice to have family close that you can rely on and see a familiar face whenever you need it. This pandemic has affected us all, but I know we will come out stronger on the other side, we just have to be patient. I look forward to reading some of your work this semester!

    Best,
    Payton

  13. Hi Robbie!
You seem like quite the sports enthusiast! That seems very fitting you want to become a chiropractor! That will be such a fun and rewarding career! I am a senior as well, and I totally understand this is not the year we had all hoped for! I hate missing out on different events like football season, sorority date parties, potentially graduation, and more! It just isn't the same, but you are so right that we have to make the best of our situation! I look forward to reading your story and good luck with everything! Hang in there!

  14. Hey Robbie,

After reading your introduction, I found that we have quite a few similarities! I am from the Tulsa area and grew up playing all different kinds of sports. However, I am not very gifted in the athletics department so I have kind of given up on those kinds of activates. I totally support your dreams of being a chiropractor! I think that is totally awesome- chiropractors are a blessing! I think it is really awesome that you have the opportunity to go to college with your younger brother. I was never really close with my siblings so I think this is a real gift you and your brother have been given!

  15. Hey Robbie! Wow that's great you were in so many sports growing up, I'm sure you have a lot of great memories and stories. That's awesome that you want to be a chiropractor, I am always seeing videos of people getting their back adjusted and it looks like a really cool job haha. I love that you talked so much about your relationship with your brother. I think it's really amazing that you two are close- I wish I had that same relationship with my sibling. Best of luck this semester and everything in the future!

  16. Hello Robbie, I am also a Health and Exercise Science major who also thought about chiropractics but I went with athletic training instead. Although the circumstances that we are under are not ideal I am just glad we were all able to come back to school. Hopefully you are able to still have a great senior and best of luck in the future!
